Gender Affairs Principal Secretary (PS) Zeinab Hussein has asked women in Mombasa to re-elect President Uhuru Kenyatta as he is committed to women empowerment.
Speaking during a meeting with over 300 women in Mombasa, Hussein said that the Jubilee government had given priority to women, as it has appointed five female Cabinet Secretaries and 16 PSs.“More women hold senior positions in the current government. Jubilee has five female Cabinet secretaries and 16 PSs out of 41,” said Hussein, as quoted by the Star.“Is it not enough to show you that Uhuru is committed to women empowerment?” she asked. She further urged women to go for elective positions in the upcoming August 8 polls and said that the fact that there are only few women who were elected in 2013 is heartbreaking.“It is regrettable that during the 2013 elections, only 16 women were elected to Parliament,” Hussein said.“We did not have elected women governors nor senators. This should not be the case this year,” she added. The PS issued the women group with Sh.7.5 million, adding that more money will be channeled to women.
