Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has survived an online onslaught following allegations of child theft.

After posting the photo of himself, his wife and a little boy  during the celebrations to mark the New Year, a follower was quick to bash at the governor alleging that he had stolen the child.

The Facebook user Jacob Kanyiko pointed out the lack of similarity between the parents and the child and accused the governor of getting him (the boy) through underhand means.

But the governor was quick to defend himself:

"Jacob Kanyiko sijaiba mtoto uliza historia utaelezewa," the governor said in defence.

It translates as: Jacob Kanyibo I haven't stolen the child. Ask for history and you will be told.

He was to immediately get the backing of supporters who bashed at the accusing user for 'ignorance'.

It turned out that the boy was Baby Satrin Osinya who was rescued when a church was attacked by gunmen in Mombasa years back.

“Achana naye, maybe ni mgeni Kenya kama hamjui Osinya Satrin,” Stewart Moses said.

“Kelele za chura hazizuii ngombe kunywa maji, mheshimiwa Endelea na Kazi yako nzuri Achana na propaganda. Well done,” Shiks Gaitho chipped in.

But Carole Shiku Gachwe was of the opinion that the governor should not waste time explaining such issues.

“Why keep explaining to the ignorant?” she asked in a view that was supported by Annet Anne.

“Don't bother to explain to them that never see any good. Good work,” she said.

“The boy you rescued, keep it up Gavana. Hope the Bro is fine too,” said Ticha Keicy.

“Mwambie aje Likoni tumuambie aeche domo kaya uyo,,,,mwambie wewe ni mtu wa watu sio yeye na unajua maana ya uzazi na ulezi,” a tough-speaking Said Mwaka said.

Jael Akinyi said: “I think everyone knows the story of that child, may God bless you and your family governor as u continue to help others be blessed Happy New Year.”

Kelvin Juma said: “Nani anasema umeiba mtoto hio si poa ..na vile umemtake in Kama wako ...huyo nimgeni hajui kitu.”

Castor Maloba said: “Osinya made me turn my vote against the former governor, you have a big heart bro, keep up,   baba.

Jessica Ndege said: “Good job for baby Osinya is he doing  Governor.”
