Rivalry between Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong' and his closest rival, Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, took centre stage, during the National Super Alliance (Nasa) rally in the Western Kenya region county.

The two politicians fell out of ODM party during primaries in April, after Otuma accused Ojaamong, of 'stealing' his votes.

Otuoma went out to vie as an Independent candidate, even though he pledged support for Nasa candidate, Raila Odinga, his former party leader.

He accuses Ojaamong' of sabotaging Busia, and has affirmed that he will win come August 8, during general elections.

Constitutionally, an Independent candidate should not attend any political rally of any party, and should not engage in any activities, of a political party.

However, Otuoma's supporters found their way to the Nasa rally in Busia town, Sunday, causing chaos with those of governor Ojaamong', who was addressing the rally.

The supporters clashed, with Ojaamong' wondering why those of his rival were in the rally, yet he was an independent candidate.

Ojaamong' who pledged support for Raila presidency, condemned the incident, saying Otuoma was fond of violence, hence sending his supporters to a Nasa rally, to disrupt his speech.

"Some other people are inexpedient candidates, but they are sending their supporters to come to a Nasa rally. Why did he leave ODM if he still wants to attend our rallies?" he wondered.

Calm was later restored, after which Odinga was allowed to address the crowd, calling for peaceful election.

Ojaamong called on Busia residents to vote for him, and ignore Otuoma, who he said, was only after power.

Nasa principals Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, and Kalonzo Musyoka, Busia senator Amos Wako, ODM chairman John Mbadi, Siaya senator James Orengo, among others, were also in attendance.
