Sonko said a story recently published in one of the local dailies that he intends to shelve his gubernatorial bid in support of Dr Kidero are misleading.

"I wish to categorically state now that I have never, am not and will never support Dr Kidero who is my competitor for the 2017 gubernatorial race," he posted on his official Facebook account.

"My loyalty to Jubilee Party and HE President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Government remains unshakable and unrivaled. I read malice and propaganda in the story only meant to portray me as a traitor having been recently appointed to President Uhuru's presidential re-election campaign Team."

Sonko is expected to challenge Dr Kidero for the seat of governor in 2017.

He has been vocal criticizing the governor's development record accusing him of failing to put the City County in order.

The flamboyant Senator said the lunch he recently had with the governor was only organized after a Parliamentary event.

"I wish to further state that the lunch meeting I had with Dr Kidero was after we attended a Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting on Roads and Transportation at Prugna Room Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi," he added.

"The meeting was to build consensus on the Kenya Roads Bill (National Assembly Bill No 26 of 2015) and was attended by Governors and Senators among other top Government officials. It was during the lunch break that Dr Kidero joined me and Hon Simon Mbugua for lunch and nothing political was discussed."

He said he will not relent in his fight against corruption in the county government.
