Supreme Court on Monday validated the election victory of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the October repeat presidential elections unanimously.
Soon after the 10 am decision, a range of opposition strongholds witnessed protests that have led to destruction of property and loss of lives.
Police say two have died in the Monday protests.
Protesters burnt a section of Kondele Police Station in Kisumu as moments of unrest gripped the lakeside city in what locals said was displeasure in CJ David Maraga’s ruling that upheld President Kenyatta’s October 26 win. Multiple reports said the demonstrators lit bonfires on the roads.
A personal car was put to flames in the Western city, a region where Raila Odinga commands resounding support.
Two Nation Media Group journalists-Stella Cherono and Brian Moseti-were attacked by rowdy youth in Lucky Summer estate in Nairobi while on their mission to cover protests in the area.
Cherono narrated to Kenyans.co.ke the awful ordeal of how they were robbed, hit with crude weapons besides being questioned of their tribe identity.
The youth were reportedly singing “No Raila, No Peace” chants minutes after Maraga’s ruling.
On Sunday, Standard photographer Beverlyne Musili and a fellow cameraman were injured as they covered the aftermath of the chaos in Nairobi’s Ruaraka constituency.
One person in Kibra and another one in Migori-a clinical officer were shot dead in the Monday turmoil.
“A policeman known to us shot him on the lower abdomen even as he raised both hands in submission," a witness told Nation over the Migori killing.
