The move by the Supreme Court to nullify President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win was not fair, Former Lamu County Speaker Hashim Fumo has said. According to Fumo, Chief Justice David Maraga and Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu did not handle the matter with the care it deserved. Speaking during a press conference at Jubilee Hall on Sunday, Fumo said presidential elections are a highly sensitive issue, adding that the matter required extensive consultation before the decision could be reached. “The Supreme Court should not have handled the nullification of the presidential results casually and should have given priority to the country’s security,” said Fumo, as quoted by The Star.In his ruling, Maraga said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) did not adhere to the constitution when conducting the presidential election. The Supreme Court asked the commission to conduct a fresh presidential election in line with the constitution.Maraga has maintained that the Supreme Court will nullify the outcome of the repeat election if the commission repeats the same mistakes.
