The Supreme Court of Kenya will not nullify presidential election in the future over technicalities, Deputy President William Ruto has said.Speaking during a function at State House, Monday, Ruto said the proposed changes to the elections law will ensure IEBC conducts a credible poll which the court would not declare null and void by reason of non-compliance with any written law relating to that election.Among the changes Jubilee is pushing for is holding presiding and returning officers accountable if they fail or refuse to sign or complete a document containing the results of an election."Chief Justice David Maraga told us if we still hold elections with the same gaps in the electoral law he will nullify them again and, therefore, it will be irresponsible if we fail to amend laws that would ensure IEBC officials are held accountable for their actions," Ruto said as quoted by the Daily Nation. The Supreme Court on September 1 overturned President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8 victory citing irregularities and illegalities in the electoral process. It ordered a repeat presidential poll within 60 days in which Ruto is optimistic that Uhuru will win, is slated for October 26."Our opponents are demonstrating on streets while we are moving to all parts of the country campaigning for our candidate. How can they defeat us?" the DP asked a delegation of Jubilee women leaders that had visited the President.
