With politicians who lost during the last general election eying Cabinet Secretary positions when President Kenyatta unveils his final team, former Cabinet Ministers may make a surprise comeback. The President has so far retained six members of his last cabinet, with the public and even his close allies left guessing on who will make the cut and make it to the cabinet. With the President reportedly keen to raid NASA leader Raila Odinga’s support bases in a bid to water down his influence, former Matuga MPChirau Ali Mwakwere may make a shock return to the Jubilee fold with a cabinet position appointment.Mwakwere decamped from Jubilee in February 2017 where he briefly joined Raila's ODM, a move that unsettled waters within the party as he was accused by a section of party loyalists of being a Jubilee mole. He later made a new political move by joining Wiper, the party he used to contest for Kwale governor seat in the August 8 polls. In the run to the last general election, Mwakwere's relationship with Uhuru became frosty and they occasionally traded political barbs. However, the former Kenyan Ambassador to Tanzania lost in his bid for Kwale governor, losing to the incumbent Salim Mvurya. He challenged the win in court but in November, the High Court dismissed his petition, a move that has left the veteran politician in an awkward political position.Since losing in his gubernatorial bid, Mwakwere has maintained silence with people still guessing on his next political move. But as they always say, there are no permanent enemies and friends in politics.Uhuru may reach out to the former MP in a bid to kick-start his political career with eyes firmly on the 2022 general election. Mwakwere was a key face of the URP wing of the Jubilee Coalition in 2013 and even when he joined NASA, his opponents claimed that his mind was still in Jubilee.
