The death of Baringo South MP Grace Jelegat Kipchoim at the Nairobi Hospital has taken many Kenyans by surprise.
Kipchoim was not well known to the Kenyan public given that she did not appear regularly in public due to her deteriorating health condition.
She was serving her second term in Parliament after being re-elected in the August 8, 2017, general elections.
It will surprise Kenyans that she emerged victorious in the elections in spite of not campaigning, comfortably beating her male competitor.
The lawmaker was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and has been battling the terminal disease since then.
The last time Kenyans saw her was during her swearing-in.
This led to her being given preferential treatment as she was given the oath of office from her hospital bed.
She sought her re-election on a Jubilee Party ticket.
Her re-election was testament to the faith that her constituents had in her in spite of her condition.
