A survey report released February 20, indicates no MP who has defected, has done so, with the interest of serving the electorate.

According to the survey conducted between January 9 and 26, 2017, 44 per cent of respondents thought the leaders defected because of their personal interests and not to serve the electorate. 

26 per cent said the legislatures defected to promote development, whereas four per cent felt that the defections are a strategy to increase the leader’s chances for re-election.

Coming to political affiliation, 59 per cent of Cord supporters said MPs defected because of personal interests with 16 per cent, saying the lawmakers defected to spur development. 

Only 3 per cent of the supporters noted that the leaders' reasons to defect was so as to be re-elected.

This as 57 per cent of supporters allied to Jubilee party said their leaders defected to enable them promotes development whereas 11 per cent stated it was due to personal interests.

The survey by Ipsos Synovate saw 2,057 respondents interviewed across the country.
