A man suspected of being behind the murder of a Swiss couple in Mombasa has been detained for 14 days, pending investigations.

The suspect, Geofrey Mwaki, was arraigned at the Shanzu Court on Tuesday.Edward Mwandihi, an investigative officer, told the court that Mwaki, who was the couple’s care taker, is suspected to have a hand in the killing of Paul Werner Borner and Marianne Borner at their home in Nyali. “The suspect jointly with others not before court, murdered Swiss citizens at their villa 18061 and damped the bodies at Kiembeni area on the night of August 20, 2017,” Mwandihi told the court , as quoted by Baraka FM.According to police, the detention of Mwaki will assist in the arrest of the other suspects in the murder case.The items stolen from the house of the deceased are yet to be recovered.In his ruling, Chief magistrate Diana Mochache directed police to detain the man at Bamburi police station.The magistrate also ordered for a mental assessment to be carried out on the suspect.The case will be heard on September 5, 2017.
