A suspected drug peddler was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kisumu Chief Magistrate to answer to the charges of being in possession of bhang.
The accused Cotron Okinyi however denied the charges before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Thomas Obutu.
Okinyi was arrested on Sunday along the Kisumu-Busia road allegedly with rolls bhang of a market value approximated at Sh20,000 at a road block mounted at Kisian.
The Prosecution Desk requested the Court to remand the accused who is a Kisumu resident to facilitate the completion of investigations into the matter as it is believed that the suspect is working with others to peddle the drug.
The Prosecution Desk also asked for more time as they were yet to acquire a search warrant to conduct further inspection in the accused house, as there is a belief that he might be possessing more bhang in his house.
Okinyi told the Court that he did not even own a house, therefore it will be useless to conduct a search as he is living together with a friend on a temporary basis.
Magistrate Obutu remanded the accused for 10 days pending the hearing of the case in June 25, 2015.
