A suspected burglar was this morning beaten to death and his body set on fire within Lolwe estate in Kisumu.
The suspect allegedly entered a house within the estate with an intention of picking a gas cylinder and other household assortments.
The house owner allegedly noticed him and raised the alarm attracting the attention of cyclists within the vicinity.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect fled but the cyclists gave chase and caught up with him.
“He had gained entry into that woman’s house when she noticed him in time and raised an alarm,” said John Ochieng.
Ochieng added that the suspect did not hesitate but started running away and already bodaboda cyclists were responding to the alarm.
Upon interrogation before his death, the suspect said he hailed from the neighbouring Nyawita slum and was planning to take the cylinder and other households.
The growing mob then descended upon him stoning him to death before his body was set on fire.
Police arrived shortly after and put out the fire that had burned him partially.
His body was later taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral hospital mortuary.
Cases of house breaking have been rampant in the estate and residents are now calling for intensive police patrols both day and night.
