Police in Likoni on Thursday arrested a suspected drug baron in Vijini area, Mombasa County.Confirming the incident, Likoni DCI Henry Ndombi said the suspect identified as Mr Juma Hamisi Mwakaya alias Gozo was arrested in his house following a raid by several police officers.The police said the suspect is a known drug trafficker and has been on police radar for several years.According to Baraka FM, the more than 50 armed police officers with five sniffer dogs stormed the suspect’s house in an operation which lasted for five hours.The officers barricaded the road as others raided the suspect’s house despite the heavy downpour.One of the officers told the local daily that junior officers did not have information about the raid, as they have been suspected of tipping off suspects before the raid occur.Ndombi said they have enough evidence to link the suspect to drug trafficking.“We have enough intelligence report the suspect had been engaging in the illegal drug trade,” said the DCI boss.The suspect is being held at Likoni Police Station where he is being interrogated and will be taken to court after investigations are complete.
