Police officers in Mombasa have impounded a vehicle with Ugandan number plates over suspected drug trafficking.
The silver Prado is said to belong to a suspected drug baron.
The car, which was seized in Mtongwe following a tip off from members of the public, was taken to Likoni Police Station as anti-narcotics detectives launch investigations into the matter.
An officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a section of politicians have since attempted to intervene in the matter.
"We have received several calls from politicians. Some visited the station at night. We cannot release the car since the law has to be followed," said the officer, as quoted by The Star.
On his part, Likoni OCPD Willy Simba said his team will not give drug traffickers a chance to continue with the practice at the expense of the common mwananchi.
"We will not relent in the fight against drug abuse. In fact, we have ordered the driver of the car to bring all the necessary documents to the station," he said.
