The suspect, Michael Omondi Akelo, is alleged to have stolen the said goat at Futro village in Siaya Township location, Alego Usonga constituency.

The goat owner, Michael Ohalo, said he tethered two of his goats to graze and went to take care of his other animals elsewhere.

He noted that on his way he met the suspected thief who was standing beside the road pretending that his motorcycle had a mechanical problem.

He then proceeded to graze his other herd but after a short while, he was called by a villager who informed him that his goat had been stolen.

“Later I was informed that the alleged thief was being held hostage by members of the public who caught him while he was running away,” he said.

Area village elder, Ambrose Obiero, said he was called when the mob had already started beating the suspect who is alleged to have hailed from the neighbouring Gem sub county.

Siaya police boss Stephene Cheteka said that the suspect has been arrested and is detained at Siaya police station waiting to be arraigned before court.
