Some 17 people are set to appear in court in Thika after they were allegedly found selling second generation alcoholic drinks last night.

This is after police in the area conducted a night raid after the end of the four-day ultimatum given to MPs in the area to eradicate the brews by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The raids, conducted in Kiang’ombe, Kiganjo and Kamenu areas were set after the police received tip-offs through mobile phones from unknown people.

According to area OCPD Erastus Muthamia, the police had been set for an abrupt raid as they acted immediately they received the information.

He said that they also got over 900 litres of chang’aa and nine cartons of spirits which they will use as evidence against the suspects in the court.

The officer has lauded the Kiganjo residents who helped the police identify the spots.

He said that Kiandutu area is a hard area to work as the residents do not give the police any information on where the brewing dens are making it hard for them to make any arrests in the area.

Muthamia said the police will continue with the raids until they curb the brewing problem.
