According to John Seurei, an eye witness, the man tried to forcefully snatch the motorbike from the operator who raised alarm.

"After raising alarm that's when wananchi intervened and beat up the culprit. Were it not for police intervention, the man could have died," he said.

Eldoret West DCIO Ali Samatar confirmed the incident and thanked the public for notifying the police, leading to arrest of the suspect.

"We got information from the public that led to the arrest of the culprit. After searching his house we found fake Uganda car number plates, spare parts and tools used to brake into houses," he added.

He called upon the public not to take the law into their hands.

"I also urge wananchi to endure they embrace nyumba kumi initiative especially during this festive season to reduce insecurity cases," said Samatar.

The suspect, Peter Machoka Onsongo, was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where he is undergoing treatment before being arraigned in court.
