A notorious criminal would have been lynched to death by an angry mob in Witeithie Estate, Juja Sub County but timely intervention by police officers saved him.

Paul Mbugua, 22, was rescued by the police after being accused of stealing motorbikes, bicycles and households in the estate and its neighbourhoods. He was beaten to a pulp but the timely arrival of the police from Witeithie AP camp saw him escape with his life.

The suspect, according to Thikatowntoday.com was cornered at a car wash site near Bible Fellowship Church at Balozi area in Witeithie Estate after stealing a bike and clothes.

Angry residents descended on him, beating him mercilessly before dousing him with petrol and lighting him up. Luckily for the suspect, some APs who were passing by, were attracted by the crowd and rushed to the scene.

The officers, led by Sgt Tirus Murimi and Corporal Julius Kabanya, dispersed the charged crowd and managed to rescue the suspect. The suspect was taken to the Thika Level 5 Hospital where he is now fighting for his life.

Doctors at the hospital said he suffered high degree of burns and severe internal injuries evident in the bleeding from the mouth, nose and ears.
