The man was shot when he threatened to attack the police with a panga on Thursday in Nyamaiya Location, Nyamira County.

Confirming the incident, area Chief Duncan Moriasi said the cattle theft suspect Job Ondimu, threatened to attack the residents who were tracing footprints of a lost cow in the village to his home.

According to the chief, he called the police to arrest the suspect who had roused the wrath of the residents who had threatened to lynch him.

“The man is suspected of colluding with other cattle rustlers in the neighbouring counties. When they were tracing a lost cow that they suspected to have been taken to his home, he threatened to attack the residents,” Moriasi confirmed.

He added, “It prompted me to call the police and when they came he threatened them with a panga before they shot him at the leg.”

The cow was finally found in his house, and the chief confirmed that he will be arraigned in court as soon as he recovers.
