The accused, Leonard Opondo, who resides in Kisumu City's Nyalenda Estate is facing charges of alleged child defilement.

Kisumu Chief Magistrate Lillian Oteba, did not take the plea of the accused to be released on bail and adjourned the case till July 7, 2015 for mention.

According to the prosecution, the matter was reported to Kisumu Central Police Station by the mother of the victim. The victim's family neighbours the accused's home and the mother had discovered that her daughter was walking in a strange man and upon further investigation she suspected that she had been defiled.

Together with some of her neighbour, the victims mother rushed the girl to a Kisumu hospital where it was confirmed that she had been defiled.

After treatment, the girl narrated what had happened to her, something that led to filing of a police report. The prosecution alleged that in June 19 this year Opondo lured the girl into his house with sweets where he allegedly defiled her.

At that time, the child was playing outside with others while Opondo was at his home alone. The accused unsuccefully asked the court to grant him bail on the grounds of ill health.
