A 35-year-old man was on Sunday was lynched by angry residents of Chepkanga village in Uasin Gishu County.
The man was suspected to be behind several incidences of rape and defilement in the area.
His days were finally over when he was traced and nabbed after he allegedly sneaked into the bedroom of an elderly woman and hid under the bed with an intention of raping her.
He was however not successful as the elderly grandmother's suspicion served her right that there was someone beneath her bed with ill motive.
The grandmother is said to have rushed out of the house while locking the culprit inside as she shouted for help. Her yelling and shouting caught the attention of the neighbors who came to help her out.
As a defense mechanism, the man was forced to dismantle the roof of the house and managed to escape but the angry mob that had gathered outside pursued and lynched him.
Confirming the incident, the Eldoret OCPD Richard Omanga said the suspect died as he was being rushed to the hospital.
The OCPD, however, warned locals against taking the law into their own hands urging them to hand over suspects to the police instead of resorting to mob justice.
