A suspected robber was on Tuesday night shot dead by patrol police along the Garissa-Thika highway, while two other accomplices escaped with severe gunshot wounds.
The three robbery suspects had allegedly attempted to rob motorists who were stranded along the road after their vehicle developed mechanical problems along the busy highway.
Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia confirmed the incident saying the three suspects were part of a dangerous gang that has been robbing motorists and pedestrians along the Thika-Garissa highway several meters from the railway crossing just opposite Bidco Oil Company.
Erastus said police officers who were conducting foot patrols responded after the passengers raised alarm for help.
The police boss is now calling on local hospitals to be wary of any person having gun wounds seeking medical help from any medical centre.
He appealed to residents to report any suspicious individual to the police in a bid to stem highway robbery which is on the rise, especially at the route.
