A suspected robber was on Monday lynched by an angry mob at Weteithe trading centre after his attempt to rob a boda boda operator was thwarted.
According to the boda boda operator, the suspect boarded the bike and was heading to Kiandutu slums when he attempted to get me off the motorbike.
“He flagged me down, boarded the bike and asked me to drop him at the Kiandutu slums,” said the boda boda who requested to remain anonymous.
The operator told reporters that on reaching Mangu High School, the suspect ordered him to stop and removed a pistol.
However on noticing the suspect had a toy gun, he wrestled him as he shouted for help that attracted other operators who beat him up forcing him to confess his crime and reveal his accomplices.
His plea for mercy was ignored by the angry mob who stoned him and set him ablaze.
John Kamau, chairman of the boda boda operators in Weteithe said that cases of their members being robbed are on the rise.
He called on the security personnel to conduct more patrols and assure them of their safety especially this festive season.
“We want to call on security agencies to up their surveillance and deal with criminal gangs,” he said.
Over the weekend, suspected robbers shot dead a matatu tout after their attempts to carjack a PSV matatu failed along the Thika Super Highway.
