There was a free drama in Garissa after a suspected robber snatched a handbag from a local business lady at Gullet market.
The suspect drew a knife after the woman raised alarm, thus attracting public attention. Members of the public swiftly swung into action and senselessly stoned the suspect.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, Garissa OCPD Moriasi Aron said local police arrived at the scene of crime ‘a bit late’ and could not do much to rescue the suspect from the crowd that had gathered.
“Angry members of the public used mob justice. They should have surrendered the suspect to the security officers and allow justice to take its legal course. The law prohibits mob justice,” he stated.
Witnesses at the scene of crime narrated that the suspect was beaten and stoned after having his legs tightly tied with ropes.
