Nasuulu Conservancy rangers on Thursday killed a suspected bandit and recovered 10 cows stolen in Westgate area of Isiolo County.
Police also recovered an M16 rifle from the suspect.
The bandits stole the animals on Tuesday and police officers were pursuing them.
Isiolo County Commissioner George Natembeya praised the rangers when he received the gun that was recovered from the suspect.
"This is a commendable job by our officers. Stealing of livestock should be a past tense in the region as police officers are on high alert and won't spare anyone engaging in theft," he said.
Natembeya warned suspects who intends to take advantage of the ongoing campaigns to steal animals, saying their days are numbered.
He said four suspects escaped during the gun battle and police have launched a search.
