A terror suspect, Mohamed Tulia, is reported to have been shot dead in his house in Kwale county.
Mr Tulia was shot at about 5am on Wednesday.
Tulia was on the list of the most wanted terrorists and had been trailed by police for long.
According to Msambweni sub county deputy county commissioner Elvis Korir, the police wanted him alive.
"When our officers found him he resisted arrest and tried to hurl a grenade at them, our officers decided to gun him down before he could do more harm,” he said.
The incident took place just hours after former community policing officer Rama Fondo was shot dead by unknown assailants in his house as reported by local media.
Police said Fondo was killed after people believed to be Al Shabaab returnees raided his house while he was watching the 9pm news on Tuesday.
They said the returnees have been targeting government informers and those who have reformed.
The two bodies were taken to Msambweni referral hospital mortuary.
