A suspected robber was on Thursday shot dead by police in Mtwapa, Kilifi, following an attempted robbery in the area.Confirming the incident, Coast region police boss Larry Kieng said the suspect was shot dead after he tried grabbing a gun from a police officer.Kieng said the gang was being chased by a mob in Mtwapa when they bumped into police officers on patrol, prompting a scuffle.During the scuffle, one of the robbers tried to grab a gun from one of the officers, forcing the police to shoot him.Three other suspects sustained injuries and were taken to Coast General hospital where they were admitted under police supervision.Three others were arrested and are currently being held at the Kilifi Police Station as they assist police with investigations.“Our officers arrested three suspects while the other three who got injured are receiving treatment at Coast General Hospital,” said Kieng, as quoted by Baraka FM.He said the suspects will be arraigned in court and charged with obstructing police officers from performing their duties.However, residents have differed with police, claiming that the suspect who was shot dead was a water vendor who was hit by a stray bullet during the scuffle.
