Two suspected robbers on Tuesday dropped a firearm while attempting to steal from an M-Pesa shop in Changamwe.
Confirming the incident, Changamwe Police boss Stanley Chateka said police officers recovered the Ceska pistol which had seven rounds of ammunition.
Chateka said the two men approached the M-Pesa agent pretending to withdraw money, when one of the robbers accidentally dropped the gun.
The two tried stealing from the shop but were overwhelmed after the agent raised alarm, attracting members of the public.
The police boss said they have launched a manhunt for the suspects who fled using an unregistered motorbike.
“One of the suspects was armed with a firearm which he then dropped accidentally. The firearm has been forwarded to ballistic experts to identify the owner. We are pursuing the suspects whom we have been told escaped using an unregistered motorcycle,” said Chateka, as quoted by Baraka FM.
