An irate mob on Saturday lynched a man suspected to be a member of the Wakali Kwanza criminal gang in Sansiro area, Likoni. According to an eye witness, the suspect was lynched after attempting to rob a businessman in the area, alongside two other gang members who managed to escape, reports Baraka FM. The witness also revealed that the gang was armed with machetes and clubs during the botched robbery attempt.Police officers who were escorting trucks transporting food to various parts of Mombasa were forced to fire in the air to disperse the mob.Confirming the incident, Likoni Deputy OCPD Anthony Shimoli said the criminals were armed with crude weapons, adding that investigations were underway to identify the deceased and arrest the two suspects who escaped.Shimoli said that the businessman, identified as Simba, raised alarm attracting the crowd who caught the suspect and lynched him.He, however, warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.The body was taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary pending investigations.
