The Anti Doping Agency, Kenya (ADAK) in collaboration with Pharmacist and Poisons Board has arrested one person suspected to be involved in administering banned substances to athletes in the North Rift region.
According to ADAK Chief Executive Officer Japhter Rugut, the accused is alleged to be administering the banned substance known as Erythropoietin to athletes (EPO).
The suspect is accused of committing the crime at the Eldo Sako chemist in Eldoret town.
“We have arrested one Samuel Kosgei Cheptoo for administering illegal drugs to athletes and he will be arraigned in court on Monday," Rugut told the press in Eldoret town, Saturday.
He said the suspect has been under investigation by the agency and will face charges contravening sections 42(2) and 42(4) of the Anti-Doping Act.
The ADAK boss further issued a stern warning to those individuals selling or administering illegal drugs to athletes saying they will be arrested and charged in a court of law.
He also cautioned athletes against any involvement in any form of doping.
“I want to urge athletes to concentrate on winning races through practicing and not through shortcut which will take you nowhere, If you want to stay longer in this game then avoid drugs at all costs,” Rugut advised.
