The Nakuru Chief Magistrate Josephat Kalo has allowed a six-day detainment of four people linked to the murder of international rugby player Mike Okombe over the weekend.

The woman alleged to be Okombe’s wife, Maryanne Mumbi , Calvin Okoth, Erick Mochache and Vincent Omondi appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon but did not take a plea with the prosecution seeking more time for their interrogation.

The court has been told that the investigations lead officer Corporal Jacob Kathurima had not concluded investigations on the matter and sought more time with the suspects under a further one week in custody.

Prosecutor Bedan Kihara informed the court that there are recoveries that were involved in the murder which will go down to arrest more suspects and the four are important in helping the police in their investigations.

“The four are suspects involved in the murder of Mike Okombe, the suspects were arrested yesterday and the investigating officer has not concluded investigations. The application to have them detained for more days is not in bad faith,” said Mr. Kihara.

The suspects’ lawyer Kamau Chomba said his clients should be treated as suspects and subjecting them to detention for seven days as per ad been requested by the investigations officers will be an infringement of their rights.

The court allowed the application by the investigating officer and the prosecutor and permitted them to hold the suspect for six working days.

The four will be held at Menengai Police Station in Rongai Nakuru until Monday, November 13, 2017, when they will appear before the High Court for plea taking.
