Three suspects, including Chief Registrar in the Civil Registry Office Kimotho Samuel, arrested by police in Garissa town two weeks ago have taken plea at the courts.
The trio was held in connection to a birth certificate syndicate.
The three are alleged to have been conducting illegal issuance of birth certificates to Somalia aliens to enable them acquire Kenyan ID cards and also passports.
Kimotho who is the main suspect was charged with abuse of constitutional office while his co-accused Khalif Maalim Gure and Fatme Faraj, were jointly held and charged with holding in their bookshop stores death certificate forms D2 and acknowledgements of birth notification forms B1that were suspected to have been unlawfully obtained.
Maalim Gure, who is facing nine counts, and Fatme were both released on one million shillings bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000 and a surety of similar amount.
The two were represented by Garissa-based lawyers Onono Cyprian and Paul Nyaga when they appeared before the Garissa Chief Magistrate Ms Margret Wachira.
