Police in Eldoret town has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Marathoner Richard Tirop Kessio and his friend Kimutai Kemboi.
The two were killed on January 25 this year at Kipkorgot trading center in the outskirts of Eldoret town.Uasin Gishu county Commissioner Abdi Hassan confirmed the arrests saying the three are suspected to be the ringleaders of a gang that has been terrorizing locals in Eldoret town and nearby areas.Hassan further said they are following up on crucial leads that would see more suspects arrested.Tirop, 43, a road running specialist, won Barbados Marathon in the USA in 2010 and 2011, Barbados Half Marathon in 2012, 2013 and in 2014 as well as the 10 KM race in 2011.Bodies of the two were found on January 26 at Kipkorgot area located on the outskirts of Eldoret town.It was said that the two were heading home before being accosted by unknown assailants.Tirop was once named “2014 Masters Long Distance Runners” by Running Times when he was based in the US before returning to Eldoret in 2015.
