This comes days after he and other 38 officials from the water department were interdicted and suspended by the governor.

They were accused of engaging in malpractices such as theft of fuel, diversion of drilling rigs to private homes and receiving bribes among other misconducts.

In a statement by Mr Muia, he has said that his suspension is political and is compounded by the fact that he hails from Yatta and ‘Weuni’ in general. He outlined some of his achievements from 2013.

“When I was appointed the first CO for Water in Machakos in 2013, that department had only three officers and two motorbikes! When I left the department in early 2015, it had over 400 employees.

Besides that, we had already acquired more than 15 plant and heavy equipment for water harvesting. In other words, I left the department better than I found it.

He has further accused the governor of threatening him so that he could implicate the deputy governor.

“Around Mid-2015, the Governor called me and threatened that he would sack me within the following three hours if I failed to record a statement with the CID and EACC implicating his deputy. I stood my ground and stayed put since I had no evidence to implicate his deputy on what he had been alleged to have done.”

Mr Muia further alleges that his refusal to rubber stamp procurement malpractices in the Kenyatta stadium scandal was one of the reasons for his suspension.

”My refusal to transfer over Sh350 Million from the water department to the Governor’s Office kitty for his discretionary use on his social-political expenses and globe-trotting escapades has not made things easier between us,” Lemi added.
