The eight top security commanders during the 2015 Garissa University College massacre have been reinstated.

The commanders had been suspended over the failures as well as delayed response when the attack happened, which left over 147 students dead.

Most of the people who died were students from the university, even though the security officers managed to save a good number of students despite having arrived at the scene late.

The seven officers who had been suspended are AP commander Christopher Muthee, police county commander Charles Wambugu, OCPD Benjamin Ong’ombe , Anti-Terror Police Unit boss Nicholas Kimanzi, DCI chief Musa Yego, subcounty AP boss John Cheruiyot Sawe and station commander Charles Ayaro.

An investigation report indicated that a section of officers left the station despite having knowledge of the attack.

“The senior command comprising the regional police coordinator, AP commander, OC ATPU and county commissioner were not within the county on the eve of the attack and immediately after the attack,” the inquiry said, as quoted by Star.

The officers have been put on the spot over the death of the students in one of the deadliest attacks in the recent years.
