The controversy over the quality of the ongoing construction of Manga stadium has created a new storm for the county government of Nyamira.

The county government had allocated Sh50million in two financial years -- 2014/15 and 2015/16 -- to improve the status of the stadium to an international level but a section of residents have questioned the quality before the official launching of the completed projects.

On Monday, a section of residents led by Nyamira County majority whip Peter Mororo called for an investigation and possible prosecution of those involved in the tendering process.

“I am a disturbed man and the same can be seen in the eyes of many," Maroro said.

"This cannot be probably the project we had endorsed to help our local talent in sports for training. The standard is poor and doesn’t reflect the Sh50 million in question. Thorough investigations must be done to expose possible fraud that is going on.”

They called upon the public accounts committee to launch immediate investigation besides promising to demonstrate against the projects.

“The stadium is being done from the taxpayers’ money and we demand to see quality work from the contractors," Maroro said.

"The PAC must launch immediate investigations to ascertain the validity of the entire project because it’s substandard and I have spoken to the man in charge -- Ezra Mochiemo,” he added.

The concerns may put to a halt planned inauguration ceremony of the stadium that is set to be held mid-October with top government officials expected to attend.
