The chairman of the National Land Commission Muhammad Swazuri has said that landowners affected by the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) through Maimahiu to Narok will be compensated by the government.Speaking to the media today, Swazuri revealed that the compensation would be in terms of alternative land or money.''There has been a lot of tension because of the entry of contractors. We want to inform people of the SGR project as a first step. We want to assure them that according to the constitution, that there will be no land taken from them without any compensation,'' Swazuri said.Swazuri words come in the context of rising anxiety over the SGR project with locals calling for the government to offer compensation.
