National Land Commission (NLC) has asked land grabbers in Juja, Kiambu County to return title deeds for the lands acquired illegally.
Speaking at Juja Deputy County Commissioner's office on Tuesday, NLC chairman Mohammad Swazuri issued a three- month ultimatum to the land grabbers to vacate public land or be evicted.
Swazuri reported that the commission is aware that a certain tycoon in the area had grabbed a 33-acre piece of land belonging to the government.
“We are aware that a tycoon in this area, a politician for that matter has grabbed the land that was meant for a police station, hospital, church and public toilets," Swazuri said.
He said the suspect has been frustrating efforts to reclaim the land but vowed that the government will firmly deal with him.
"He has been using court orders and bribing police officers to defend the land he acquired illegally,” said Swazuri.
The NLC boss added: “I am giving a vacation notice to the grabber and within 90 days, he should have put his house in order failure to which we’ll be forced to forcibly evict him from the land."
Juja MP Francis Munyua said that rampant land grabbing and issuance of fake title deeds are issues of great concern in the area and blamed NLC for not dealing with encroachers on public utility land.
"The commission has failed to address land matters in this area which has made the national government turn into a beggar," said Munyua.
The legislator added that whatever belongs to the public must be developed and used to benefit the citizens.
