National Land Commission (NLC) Chairman Muhammad Swazuri has nullified title deeds issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta three years ago in Kwale County.
According to Swazuri, the titles, which were issued by the president himself, were erroneously given out, even though they non-locals occupied the land.
The errors were discovered after the NLC and the county government conducted a verification exercise.
In 2015, the County Assembly Land Committee gave a report that indicated many outsiders were issued with the documents than the local citizens.
“We have a lot of issues in settlement schemes like Diani complex, Ukunda, Diani, Ramisi and Shimba hills,” said Swazuri.
Addressing journalists when he toured Kwale County, Swazuri said they will sit down with all involved stakeholders to decide whether or not they will renew the current leases.
Title issuance has been a thorny issue for President Kenyatta to deal with, with the court ruling a few days ago that most of the title deeds were irregularly issued.
