National Lands Commission (NLC) chair Mohamed Swazuri has said lands cartels are behind the bid to oust him.

According to Swazuri, land cartels which are hell-bent on grabbing public land are fighting to have him kicked out of the commission over his firm stand against them. However, the embattled NLC chair has vowed to crush the cartels, warning that he will continue executing his constitutional duties irrespective of the amount of opposition that comes his way."Whether I am the chairman or not, the commission is bound by the constitution to fulfill its mandate. I will not be cowed by the cartels," he said.Swazuri's tenure at the helm of the commission has been marred by controversy, with former journalist Njeru Mugo filing a petition to have him investigated for allegedly demanding Sh1.2 million bribe from him for compensation of the standard gauge railway land. After the parliamentary committee on land started the investigations over the claim, Swazuri obtained a court injunction barring the parliamentary body from investigating him.
