[Photo/nation.co.ke]National land commission (NLC) chairman Mohamed Swazuri has raised a red flag on digital land grabbers using fake court orders to evict squatters from communal land in Athi River.When visiting squatters occupying disputed communal land measuring more than 3,000 acres, Swazuri said most unscrupulous land grabbers have gone digital to hoodwink members of the community."The cartel is coming up with a fake court order and a judgment before serving them to the occupant of land and police to be assisted to evict the occupants of the targeted land," said the chairman.Squatters occupying this piece of land have been attacked severally in the past one year with five persons losing their lives and scores injured.Police officers are said to have been hoodwinked to evict them after destroying their houses.Squatters claim their lives have been in danger asking the NLC to protect them from well-connected land grabbersMavoko MP Patrick Makau says the more than 5,000 squatters have been living in abject poverty in great fear from land grabbers. He warns the cartel they shall not be tolerated in this region.Machakos county commissioner took issue with fake court orders saying land grabbers have taken Athi River by storm affecting security adversely.Meanwhile, Swazuri urges security agents to protect the squatters as NLC follow due diligence before allocating the land to squatters in three months’ time.Several well-connected individuals are said to be claiming a section of the vast land initially used to e used by the government as KMC grazing grounds to the chagrin of the locals
