National Land Commission (NLC) chairman Mohamed Swazuri is on the spot over his role in the illegal allocation of more than 2300 acres of land a cement firm in Mombasa.

According to a report which was approved by the Parliamentary Committee on Lands on Thursday, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were instructed to investigate Swazuri for allegedly abusing office. The report further recommends for Swazuri's imprisonment should he be found culpable of the irregular land allocations in his capacity as the NLC boss. The Committee further accused the commission of interring with the probe into the said disputed land after NLC's vice chairperson Abigail Mbagaya who was appointed to head the probe was suspiciously replaced by Cyrus Burugu. The Committee which has been exposing fraudulent land deals in Mombasa in the past few weeks accused Swazuri if taking a unilateral decision in confirming that Mombasa Cement Limited as the legal owner of the disputed land without the input of other NLC commissioners. This the second time that Swazuri has been accused of fraudulent allocations of land in Mombasa. Just recently, he was accused of having a hand in authorizing demolitions in Changamwe, a move that has left hundreds landless and homeless.
