County governments should engage the public in formulation and passing of crucial policies and projects.
Speaking to reporters after a devolution forum at a Kiambu hotel on Wednesday, Transition Authority Vice Chairperson Angeline Honga said that the public views must be considered.
She noted that the constitution allows for public participation and raised fears that most county governments have shunned the public.
“County governments must realise that the constitution requires them to fully involve the public in key matters,” she said.
Honga also asked the county government to implement policies that will focus on improving the living condition o f the people.
She stated that devolution was meant for the people and not for leaders to show their selfish interests.
Honga asked the public to show interest in what their respective county governments are doing and keep the leaders on toes. She stated that delivery of services should be the first priority for all county leaders.
“Members of the public should come out and show interest in what their county governments are doing,” she added.
