Led by group leader Joy Moraa, Chabumba women group started the business early last year after seeking advice from area agricultural officer Boniface Omari.

“At first it was difficult to agree on the kind of business to start," said Moraa.

"This compelled us to seek advice from Mr Omari who played a pivotal role to what we are today. It was not easy at the beginning but we are reaping from it."

She said the group managed to venture into the business after a series of saving little cash monthly besides receiving aid from area political leadership.

“We have really toiled very hard. We were able to save a little cash for a couple of months before we were able to raise capital. Furthermore, our local leaders like Women Rep Mary Otara helped us a lot and we thank her for that,” she added.

She said that the group made a profit of over Sh70,000 Kshs in their first harvest and they are expecting more in this year’s harvest.

“This year seems a different one. Our cabbages were not invaded by pests hence I'm sure of good yields as usual. We will use profits to start other businesses,” she said.

They urged women to start groups so that they can access help from well-wishers besides taking advantage of women enterprise funds.
