Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua was quizzed about the timing of his table banking initiative during cross-examination in a case filed by former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti challenging his victory. Wavinya’s lawyers led by Wilis Ochieng asked the Maendeleo Chap Chap leader why he allegedly initiated the project a few days to the Agust 8, 2017 General election.“The table banking program has been an ongoing initiative by the county government since 2014 and is aimed at empowering women in entrepreneurship. The program’s funds are budgeted and facilitated through the county assembly,” Mutua said as quoted by Standard.

Wavinya through her lawyers claimed that Mutua engaged in electoral malpractice by recruiting party polling agents. The Wiper party candidate in the Agust polls claimed that Mutua used county officials as polling agents.

“I am the party leader of Maendeleo Chap Chap party, which is a national outfit with a full-fledged secretariat which was responsible for recruiting the party’s polling agents across the country. I have no knowledge of any county official recruited for the same, neither did I influence any such recruitment,” Dr Mutua told Justice Aggrey Muchelule.

Mutua denied all allegations leveled against him.
