Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu and Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu will know their political fate today (Thursday) as the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal hears the petition filed by the Governor against the party challenging the provisional certificate issued by ODM'S National Elections Board to Mwadeghu. The tribunal has since stopped the Raila Odinga-led party from issuing the provisional certificate to the Wundanyi MP who is also the Minority Whip in parliament pending the hearing of the petition. The outcome of the ODM party primaries for the Taita Taveta gubernatorial candidate has been shrouded with controversy with both Mruttu and Mwadeghu claiming victory. To forestall any further acrimony, the party had planned for a repeat of the exercise in five polling stations in Taveta sub-county, an area considered Mruttu's political turf. However, the exercise did not take place after the lawmaker contested the decision and declared that he would snub the process as he had fairly 'won' the ODM ticket. As the conflict ran deep, Mwadeghu and his supporters camped at the party's headquarters demanding to be issued with the nomination certificate. The party later yielded to the pressure and declared Mwadeghu the winner, a move that irked Mruttu who filed a petition at the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
