Kisumu women have been encouraged to take advantage of the 30 percent Public Procurement Tenders allocations for women, youth and People With Disabilities provided by the state.
Deputy President William Ruto’s wife, Rachael Ruto, encouraged women to take advantage of the opportunity since this will empower them economically.
Rachael said women cannot become millionaires through monthly salaries only hence need to venture in business.
“The issues of most women crying that they do not have, need to come to an end. We need to think outside the box and take advantage of the available opportunities,” said Rachael.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had given a directive that 30 per cent of Public Procurement Tenders should be allocated to the youths, women and PWDs.
She said the 30 per cent in the financial year 2014/15 was equivalent to 221 billion shillings which is not a small amount and if utilized well by women, they can change their life.
Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo however encouraged women to continue registering to benefit from the 30 per cent allocations.
Gwendo said currently the registration fees being charged is half the initial amount that was being charged earlier.
She said women should change their perception about the process and form groups to enable them get the money.
The two were speaking on Wednesday at Imperial Hotel in Kisumu during the official opening of Care International Conference which brought over 2500 members to discuss pertinent issues affecting the profession and other progressive ideas.
