The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has challenged locals in the North Rift region to maximise on the ongoing annual legal awareness week.

LSK North Rift chairman Zephania Yego says the awareness week provides a rare opportunity for Kenyans to get free legal advise and assistance from their members who are lawyers and advocates.

Speaking at the Eldoret High Court grounds on Wednesday where the awareness week is being conducted, Yego said several locals have already turned up to seek legal advise for various issues.

"Some of the issues that locals have been seeking for advise range from matters to do with land, commercial law, succession as well as criminal matters," noted Mr Yego.

"The essence of this awareness week is to help the public get access to justice and this is why in some instances we shall give free legal representation to some of the people," he added.

The legal awareness week for the North Rift region is being held at the Eldoret High Court and Kitale Law courts grounds.
