County Commissioner John Elungata said parents should engage their children positively as a way of guiding them not to slide into bad activities.

Elungata said that it is during school holidays that children find themselves indulging in outlawed activities.

“It is my appeal to parents to closely monitor their children not to enter into bad groups. We should not leave the issue of discipline to teachers a lone,” he said.

He said parents should be keen on the whereabouts of their children, the kind of gathering they attend and their companions.

Speaking in Kisumu on Thursday during a forum on children, Elungata said the government will take stern action on people out to destroy the future of children.

He further noted that proper parenting is core to the good behavour of children while in school.

The commissioner noted that the government is currently grappling with cases of arson in schools occasioned by bad behavior among some students.

“Many students have been taken to court over arson, you will find out that majority of them had bad behaviors from home,” he said.
